Choosing the right head lights

A headlight is specific to the body shape and the lighting package the car left the factory with. The same model can use a halogen reflector lamp on base variants, a projector lamp on mid grades and a full LED unit on the top grade, and a mid-life facelift usually changes the shape entirely. Those differences decide whether a headlight plugs straight in.

Stay with the lamp type your car was built with. Moving from halogen to a factory LED or HID headlight normally needs a different wiring plug and levelling hardware, and fitting HID globes to a halogen headlight is not roadworthy in Australia. Most listings are the lamp housing only, so move your existing globes across unless the listing says globes are included.

Check these before you order

• Series and build month, taken from the build plate or compliance plate, not the registration year
• Halogen, HID or LED, and whether the lamp has projector lenses
• With or without a built-in daytime running light strip
• Pre-facelift or facelift shape, compared against the photo
• Left or right hand side
